Military and Veterans

Military Connection

Armed Forces
Air Force :: Army :: Marines :: Navy :: Veterans

For decades, veterans have put their lives on the line each and every day, both on the battlefront and at the many U.S. military bases located around the world.

In times of war and in times of peace, these veterans, both men and women, have defended our country.

Unfortunately, Asbestos has put many veterans' well being at risk, causing aggressive diseases such as mesothelioma and asbestosis, that affect a veterans quality of life and shorten lives as well. And, most of the time, military members were often unaware that this hazard was silently lurking nearby.

Asbestos was used by the military for many years in ships (boilers to the galleys to soldiers sleeping quarters), shipyards, barracks, shops, loading docks, supply stores, mess halls, drill halls, quarters, base housing, amenities, hangars, power plants, and numerous other facilities.

Military personnel that may have been exposed to asbestos include, but not limited to, gunmen, boiler-men, firemen and tradesmen such as pipe-fitters, plumbers, mechanics, ship-fitters, electricians, welders, boilermakers, and many others.

It may have been present in wiring to jet turbines to computer centers to wall, ceiling, and floor insulation, electrical wiring, asbestos-cement siding, and asbestos-laden shingles, insulation (primarily in engine rooms), deck tiles, galleys, overheads, sealant, paint, and even in rope, among other things.

And, as these materials age, they release asbestos fibers into the air, where they are easily inhaled. It is the exposure to the asbestos fibers that has been linked to mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.

If you are an military veteran (air force, marine, army and navy) who served prior to 1980 and later developed mesothelioma, you may have been exposed to asbestos during your service.
