The Various Types
The two most common types of mesothelioma cancer are pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma.
If your physician has diagnosed you with pleural mesothelioma - the most common type of mesothelioma – it means that the mesothelium tissue that surrounds the lung has been invaded by the mesothelioma cancer.
If your physician has diagnosed you with peritoneal mesothelioma, it means that the mesothelium tissue that surrounds your abodomen has been invaded by the mesothelioma cancer.
Additionally, there are less common forms of mesothelioma. Pericardiem mesothelioma affects the mesothelium lining around the heart and testicular mesothelioma affects the mesothelium lining around the testicles (tunica vaginalis).
