Treatment Options
The treatment options vary for mesothelioma and depend on your health, its stage and location. Please consult your medical doctor for the various treatment options.
Some of the options for treatment on the National Mesothelioma Foundation website include:
- Surgery
- Chemotherapy
- Immunotherapy
- Radiation
- Clinical Trials
In addition, drugs like Alimta (pemetrexed for injection) are used for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM).
Alimta is given with cisplatin, another anticancer medicine (chemotherapy) when surgery is not an option.
Alimta is manufactured by Eli Lilly, and was recently approved by the FDA as the first maintenance treatment for advanced lung cancer.
